Beaches: Many - all of which offer fantastic surfing and extensive walks over the cliffs – check out the map in the hall. Also don’t miss going into the Braunton marshes, dunes and the estuary for a very different environment.

Shops: Comprehensive range of butchers, bakers, greengrocers, chemists, banks and supermarkets (Tesco in Velator) available in the village – so you do not need to load your car up with provisions for your holiday. Most are open seven days a week; Surf hire and surf brand clothing everywhere!

Food and drink: There is a range of ‘town’ pubs in the village. The London Inn has a large screen TV inside and seats out the back. SQ is a great, lively bar and restaurant. The George at the end of South Street has recently been refurbished. For more rural pubs try Georgeham or West Down. Excellent Sunday Lunch at The Rock in Georgeham. Squires Fish and Chip shop/Restaurant is renowned throughout North Devon - well worth a visit! - as is ‘South Sixteen’. English, Indian, Chinese, Surf and Turf, bistros and take-aways, all in walking distance. Sri Lankan pop-ups in Croyde, Woolacombe and Braunton – very good curries. Tennis: The Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple is 20 minutes away and is an excellent purpose built centre (6 indoor courts, 4 Astro turf, etc), you can pay and play by the hour.

Bicycles: (Tarka Trail) Hire from Otter cycle hire around the corner in Station Road – the Trail is mainly a disused railway so its flat!!
